Buddy Incorporated began on a cold winter morning in late 2004, born from equal parts frustration and inspiration. After putting out a round bale the night before, we discovered the next morning that the horses had stripped a full foot off the bale all the way around, standing calmly on the wasted hay while pulling more from the core.

In that moment, determined to stop the waste, we pulled a large tote bag over what remained of the bale and flipped it over. Suddenly, the horses could only access hay from the flat end—no more pulling from the sides, no more mess, and no more waste. That simple, improvised solution became the first prototype of the Big Bale Buddy.

After a bumpy road to production, the Big Bale Buddy was officially introduced to North America in 2006, quickly earning praise for reducing waste and protecting hay from mud, wind, and weather.

But some horses still ate too quickly. So we created the Slow Bale Buddy line—our knotless nylon slow‑feed hay nets designed to slow fast eaters down to a natural grazing pace while still minimizing up to 90% of hay waste.
